Holme, Nether Wyresdale and Plumpton<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>in 1871 living at Nether Staveley railway station<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>scholar in 1881 living at Station House, Burton-in-Kendal<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>in 1890 married <strong><span style=\"color: #008000;\">Elizabeth Todd Stainton (1865\u20131946)<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>railway clerk in 1891 living at Harterbeck, Roeburndale, Lancashire with wife&#8217;s mother, stepfather and family<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>living at Clifton, Westmorland from 1892 to 1895 or later<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>railway clerk in 1901 living at Lay Pitts, Burton-in-Kendal<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>railway booking clerk in 1911 living at <strong>24 Helmside, Oxenholme<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Thomas died 5 October 1926 and is buried at St Mark&#8217;s Church, Natland<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>probate Carlisle 14 December to widow Elizabeth Todd Nixon<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>effects \u00a3627 9s 8d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>his widow Elizabeth continued to live at <strong>24 Helmside, Oxenholme<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>she won numerous prizes for her bread-baking in the thirties<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Elizabeth died 1 July 1946 at 10 Gandy Street, Kendal and is buried at St. Mark&#8217;s Church, Natland<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>probate to son Percy Nixon railway engine driver<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>effects \u00a3597 14s 8d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Thomas and Elizabeth had five children:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li><strong><span style=\"color: #008000;\">Elizabeth Nixon (1890\u20131891)<\/span><\/strong> &#8211; born at Roeburndale, Lancashire and died as an infant<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong><span style=\"color: #008000;\">Herbert Nixon (1892\u20131920)<\/span><\/strong> &#8211; see further information below<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong><span style=\"color: #008000;\">Percy Nixon (1895\u20131976)<\/span> <\/strong>&#8211; see further information below<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong><span style=\"color: #008000;\">Florence Nixon (1901\u20131983)<\/span> <\/strong>&#8211; born 24 April 1901 at Burton-in-Kendal &#8211; married William Teasdale in 1937 &#8211; <\/span>mother Helen died just three weeks after giving birth and so Marion was brought up by her mother&#8217;s sister<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity is-style-wide\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Percy Nixon (1895\u20131976)<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>born 2 October 1895 at Clifton, Westmorland<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>living with parents at Lay Pitts, Burton-in-Kendal in 1901<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>railway bookstall clerk in 1911 living with parents at <strong>24 Helmside, Oxenholme<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>railway fireman at <strong>Oxenholme<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>served with the Railway Operating Division in World War 1<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>awarded the Military Medal for gallantry and devotion to duty<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>&#8220;For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While attached to the 4th Australian Broad Gauge Railway Operating Company, Sapper Percy Nixon, together with Corporal Norman James Lewis and 2nd Corporal James Edward Waters of that Company, were the train crew working with a party of Royal Engineers between Villers Faucon and Tincourt on 21 March 1918.
